We are a big audio book family. Being on the road so much on our travels, gives us a lot of time to listen to books. We listen to a wide variety of stories. But since I am a history lover, of course I also want to sneak some type of historical fiction and non-fiction into the listening schedule. We recently had the opportunity to review Beric the Briton ($29.97) from Heirloom Audio Productions.
Beric the Briton did not disappoint. We have loved other historical audio titles that are offered by Heirloom. Their audio dramas are written in a way that you are immersed into a new world. You can listen with your eyes closed and imagine what is happening. The descriptions are vivid, and for those who have trouble using imagination, the action packed voices keep them on the edge of their seats. They suddenly do not have such an issue with imagination anymore.
But Heirloom Audio Productions not only works to bring history more alive for your family, they also work hard to incorporate Christian values into each program. BBeric the Briton brings courage, determination and duty to life.
Beric the Briton is the story of a young man who takes on the Roman government and their corruption. He learns Christian values along the way.
The score is written by John Campbell and helps to bring the story more alive through the highs and the lows.
The all-star cast of voices include famous stars like Brian Blessed, Brian Cox, Tom Baker, Honeysuckle Weeks, Cathy Sara and John Rhys-Davies.
For 2 1/2 hours, your family will be entertained just like families used to be prior to a television in every home. You can bring Beric the Briton along in your vehicle while traveling or listen to him in the comfort of your living room. G. A. Henty created this for ages 6 - 16, but family members of all ages will enjoy this program.
We received the two-disc cd-set of Beric the Briton, that contains access to a downloadable eStudy Guide. It includes comprehension and discussion questions to draw your family out more as you listen to the story. Included also are Bible studies to supplement your learning experience even more. The 2-CD set also includes the mp3 version of the soundtrack that was composed by John Campbell. There is also a printable poster of a quote from Julius, "I will gladly die for him who died for me."
The eStudy guide helps parents to look through this time in history and help give them ideas for activities to bring this time period more alive for their children. Sometimes it is harder for some children to imagine what is going on in the story inside their minds while they are listening, especially if they are just learning about this time in history. With the help of the activities suggested, you can overcome that challenge with your children.
Heirloom Audio also has a Facebook page that you can follow and find many more wonderful suggestions to dig deeper into your study of history and bring it even more to life while listening to Beric the Briton.
We have loved yet another production from Heirloom Audio Productions. We have enjoyed all their products so far. Beric the Briton has made a great addition to our summer travels. It has brought the time period of Ancient Rome to life. We have read about this time period in our history, so it helped to bring it to life for the kids. The actors did a wonderful job with the voices.
If you are studying period of Ancient Rome, I would definitely recommend adding this title to your listening list. Beric the Briton will help to bring Ancient Rome more alive in your children's minds.
Several members of the Schoolhouse Review Crew were given the opportunity to try out Beric the Briton. Take some time to visit the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog and see how they enjoyed this in their homes and what they recommend.
