Spookley the Square Pumpkin - Story Art Day

This is one of my all time favorite books.  He was made fun of for being different than the others, but in the end he saves the day.  A great story to show kids that they may be different, but each person's uniqueness is needed by everyone around them.

Then we made our own pumpkins using a pattern I found in the Crafts for all Seasons book by Kathy Ross.

First we stuffed pantyhose with stuffing.

Then we tied off the tops with rubber bands.

Our friend David and his grandma came over for art today.

Next in the spirit of uniqueness we painted our pumpkins whatever color we wanted.

Punky chose orange...since at 2 she only knows that pumpkins are orange.

Lydia loved the rainbow pumpkins in the book, so that is what she chose to do.

Joey mixed colors until he came up with an "awesome" color of his own.

This is Caty's finished pumpkin.

This is Brayden's...

This is Lydia's rainbow design.

Next week we will be doing Rainbow Fish art since Lydia and I are going to see Rainbow Fish play on the 16th.  Another wonderful story about sharing our unique qualities with others.
