What we did in school today.

Lydia's science class this week was about using different objects to learn measuring.  So I quick set up a center at our kitchen table.  I put a bowl of pennies and the math cubes out at the table.  I created a worksheet with drawings (since Lydia is in very early reading stages) of what they needed to measure.  There was a gingerbread house, can of Pepsi, two different snack cakes, a library book, flashlight and a really big pencil.

They all had fun with it.  Lydia really whined until she saw the boys doing the center.  She loved laying out the pennies and counting them.

Then I pulled out what I was hoping would be an energy drainer......wow was I wrong!!  I pulled out the Wii Fit and had all the kids go through the balance training exercises.  Lydia even ran in the aerobic exercises for 3 races and still was like the Energizer Bunny.

They all had fun and loved the soccer ball balance game.

We will be doing this at least 3 times a week from now on.  I may even invest in the new Nickelodeon Wii Fit game that has Dora and Backyardigans in it.  It got awesome reviews.

We also finished up our unit on the Human Body.  Today we watched Magic School Bus Eats Lunch.  We love using Gamequarium.  It's an awsome website with games and educational video links.  We like being able to watch Bill Nye and Magic School Bus videos all for FREE!!!!

We sort of concentrated on digestive system this week.  We discussed all the different parts that were covered in their science book.  And then we did an experiment I read about a long time ago.  We mushed a banana like our stomach would.

Caty got a little upset, but got over it when she got to feel the squishy banana.  It was fun and a great way to finish off the human body unit.

We also built igloos out of sugar cubes.  It was fun and messy.  I will include all that in our Arctic post later in the week.
