Homeschool Mother's Journal - Week 3

In my life this week…

I started feeling stress and overwhelming guilt because I kind of forgot to plan my daughter's Family Kindergarten Graduation Party.  This is a bit of a big deal for the kids and I got so busy trying to decide about the start of the new school year and whether to continue her another year as a kindergartener or advance her to 1st grade.  If we would have left her in public school, she would be a kindergartener this year since she was enrolled in junior kindergarten.  She is advancing so well though in almost all areas that I saw no reason not to let her continue on into 1st grade work.  Now though trying to throw together a quick BBQ for her by Sunday.

We are continuing to clean out the garage.  On Saturday we picked up our 'new to us' treadmill from another homeschool family.  I love it!!!  So we moved all the workout equipment together into one area of the garage.  Cleaned up some more items out of the garage and rearranged a bunch.  In the process of sorting and cleaning, I managed to break my big toe and the toe next to it on my right foot!  OUCH!!!  The pain was so intense it left me not feeling well and a little light headed.  Today I tried to make up for what I didn't get done yesterday, and did too much.  Now my whole foot has swollen up and my big toe looks like someone spilled red and purple koolaid powder on it.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We were supposed to go to Girl Scouts this week, well that didn't happen.  I could not drive today.  I worked alot, but shouldn't have done so much.  Just hoping it's a little better by morning.   We also missed a picnic with some friends because I wasn't feeling great, had a bad sinus headache...go figure.  The kids enjoyed playing in the backyard though.

My favorite thing this week was…

I loved playing Bocce ball with the family Sunday evening.  It was fun.  Couple of other faves this week was getting all the exercise equipment together and until I broke my toe, had actually set a bit of a regular workout schedule.  Also getting the garage cleaned up a bit was very nice.  Just got to start making more plans to get the family room completed now.

Things I’m working on…

I need to get some more painting done.  I also need to figure out how to grow a money tree!!!  I would share any information if someone can share some tips for me.:)!!  Still just trying to figure out how to get kids on the ASD spectrum to actually complete chores, even with reminder charts.  Would also love to solve the tantrum issue...but one hurdle at a time.

I’m reading…

Well I am actually reading two books.

10 Things Every Child with Autism Wishes you knew by Ellen Notbohm-----AWESOME BOOK!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew

and

Time Bandit---Two Brothers, the Bering Sea and One of the World's Deadliest Jobs. by Andy and Johnthan Hilstrand (Love that Show!!!)

Time Bandit: Two Brothers, the Bering Sea, and One of the World's Deadliest Jobs

I’m praying for…

Guidance and Patience....every minute!!

Questions/thoughts I have…

Parents who have special needs children live with about 1000 questions going through their heads constantly....just need to narrow one down.:)!!

The one thought that is going through my head as we are beat down daily, I know other people have it much harder than us...they have to.  If our kids are not considered severe, there are parents that are going through worse somewhere.  It doesn't help me though.  On that note though, please do not tell someone who is going through a rough time that somewhere there is a person who is going through worse.  And that things could be worse for you!  That never makes me feel better...at all!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

We were playing with the kids on Sunday and we managed to get a cute pic of them together.  I played with it at Picnik

  1. Love the picture!! I wouldn't worry about the graduation thing. I have found that, making a big deal out of it is totally enough, even if it is a little late. Hope you have a great time!!
