Homeschool Mother's Journal - Week 9

In my life this week.....

I got the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Channel 11 book club discussion...on air!  I was nervous and it was so much fun.  I am glad I let my hubby talk me into it.  I hope to get the opportunity again some day because I truly enjoyed it.  There was even a 30 minute live web chat at the TV segment was done.  It was the first time they had done that.  Looking forward to the next books.  (See what I am reading.....)

My dad was taking pictures of the TV Screen that morning.  Not the most flattering shot, but still cool.

Well I started digging into how I have been feeling and found a possible explanation for how I have been feeling.  So with papers printed and in hand, managed to get into see our doctor.  He read them and said, "You know, this could be possible."  So I had 9 blood tests done yesterday and he said hopefully we either get an answer or pointed in the right direction.  Now we just have to wait.

Our homeschool group had a Resource Sale Wednesday that was a lot of fun.  I managed to clear about half of what I brought out, but you could not tell from my shelves.  I need to go through and organize better.  I just feel like I have soooo much useful material and it's getting wasted.  I did get some awesome deals.

In our homeschool this week....

We are working our way through animal studies.  We learned about Ladybugs and hippos this week.  We are going to read about giraffes and rhinos next week.  We played lots of games.  Worked on Math and Reading.  Each of the kids finished 50 hours minimum for the library Summer Reading Program.  We'll go today to finish reporting.  The girls actually finished more reading with me, but I kept their reporting even to keep them from fighting.  The only thing we didn't get done this week was our history.  But no big deal there.  We still may get it done yet.

Lydia is really loving Click N Read phonics.  We got our first review package, very excited about this.  I think I am going to really love being on the TOS Crew!!

We also went to the local Science Museum and we went to see the Replicas of the Nina and the Pinta.

What I am reading.....

Just finished reading

The Glass Castle: A Memoir

I was soooo disturbed by how these poor children were forced to live.  I found myself cheering on their ingenuity to stay alive.  But very sad at the childhood they lost.

Now I am reading the second book....

Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel

Very good book so far.

My favorite thing this week.....

Was the relaxed schooling we were doing.  We did alot of reading and activities in the evening.  We tried to finish Math and Phonics/Grammar in the morning first thing.  And then there has been tons of playing.  Lots and lots of games!!!  Educational and fun. We even turned fun into educational.

Favorites this week were Disney Scrabble Jr., Cars 2 Monopoly (which Lydia and Caty are learning how to count because they are taking turns being the bank), Disney UNO, Princess Chutes and Ladders, Dora Candyland (of course).  And even puzzles, they are starting to enjoy more puzzles.

Helpful homeschooling advice that I have heard....

I just read our friend Betsy's blog.  If you get a chance...check her out at All My Baby Birds.  She just posted

Don't horde educational supplies.

I may have to think more and more about that.  Because I am a bit of a curriculum junkie!

A photo to share.....

I feel sometimes like I am never getting through to the kids.  But last week while at the library they had a Geography worksheet contest for the Elementary age kids.  I had the boys sit down and fill out the sheets.  Brayden needed it read to him and some of the questions explained and minor hints given, but he answered all the questions about any country we studied this past year in World Geography.  I was so proud of him....HE WAS ACTUALLY taking in what we were reading and doing.  WOW!!!

His paper was drawn out of the box!!!

He was more excited about the candy than the books...
