Literature & Art

I am really loving Language Lessons for Little Ones. I am totally getting into the Charlotte Mason method of teaching.  So much freedom.  I recently discovered this Usborne book on our shelves also.  Too much stuff means tons of hidden jewels on the curriculum shelves.  This week we talked about the painting, The Farmer's Children by Theodore Gerard.  Lydia and Caty both love art, so we drew chickens like we talked about in the pictures.  This Usborne book is full of how-to art projects for them.

The girls and I read and watched Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...love this book and the little movie.

Then we made our own Coconut Trees.  We used Melissa and Doug Stickers to do our letters.

For Brayden this week, since he just doesn't enjoy doing art projects, we found this dvd at our library branch.  So we read a book about Trains (that wasn't Thomas) and then watched a video on trains.  It was a nice evening.

The Little TrainTrain Crazy Kids

That's our Story Art for the Week...next week we are going to do the poem The Animal Store by Rachel Field and also a nursery rhyme (since Caty is learning about Cows...probably Farmer in the Dell).  We are also going to do our first story in Before Five in a Row.

  1. Isn't it fun finding those forgotten treasures? I found some LONG forgotten geodes yesterday and the kids had a blast breaking them open, finding out how geodes form, and watching You Tube cracking videos! LOVE these learning moments! Cute study!
