Math Mammoth Review

I have lost count how many times I have read or been asked about Math Curriculum.  I myself question constantly.  As homeschool parents we want to make sure our kids have the best education we can possibly give.  We have the sole responsibility for this, and curriculum choices is a major task for us.  How many times do you get together with other homeschool families, and at least once the topic of curriculum will come up.

We have a math curriculum that the boys seems to love, but sometimes our kids just need extra help to grasp a new topic.  I could spend hours hunting for worksheets on free websites or even have to create my own, or I could simply buy:

Math Mammoth offers affordable, yet quality math worktexts and workbooks for grades 1-8, available as both downloads and printed books. These books concentrate on conceptual understanding and are strong in mental math. The directions in the worktexts are written directly to the student, and are often self-teaching, thus requiring little preparation and involvement from the teacher. (from their site)

They offer books to help with review or introducing a new math concept.  Or they offer full-year curriculum for parents.

We had the opportunity to review both Measuring:

and Clocks

The boys really enjoyed both these books.  In the measuring book, it not only gave examples and explanation about topics, but lots of practice.  It covered both Standard and Metric measuring systems.  Weights, temperatures, etc. The clocks has been awesome for helping Joey to grasp elapsing time periods.  Reading time on standard clocks, and reinforcing how to tell time.  This will be one that we use for Lydia also.  In fact, this book really peaked her interest in learning how to tell time.

The boys have been working daily on the clock unit, and I would estimate that they have another 3 weeks worth of material to cover in order to finish this.  I was able to easily download this material and print it off.  We then used our binding machine to keep the pages together.  You would have the option though of not printing all the pages at once if you would prefer to do so many at a time for review and reinforcing of topics.

Both Joey and Brayden enjoy these worksheets, and they are able to work on them independently.  I can assign a full unit or just individual sheets for them. Both of these units cover a wide range of topics to thoroughly help your student to understand.

I will continue to use these to supplement our current math program, and am currently looking at  possibly switching any of the kids to their full-year curriculum.
