Our Weekly Triumphs and Accomplishments

Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give this week a successful high 7 or low 8.  We did get a lot done this week, but we lost lots of points for meltdowns, tantrums, manic episodes.  But we did manage to get everything basically done for the week.  It's Friday morning, and today will consist of reading our last book on the Skeletal System and the kids are going to work on their review programs.

Monday---Lydia had a disappointing trip to a surgeon who thinks we should leave the cyst on her arm.  Says she is too young to have surgery in that area.  Can't guarantee that she won't have another infection, so it's a chance we have to take!  On top of the fact she seemed ok with us chancing another severe infection, she made us late for our field trip that morning by disrespecting our time.  (Did I mention we will not be returning to that doctor...seeking a 2nd opinion.)  Lydia and I then went on a field trip to learn about Goodwill and their programs.  It was very informative and we both learned so much!  Then we returned home to finish up schoolwork with the boys.  We worked hard on our New Zealand projects.  Joey started his LEGO lapbook and is enjoying it.  Here's Monday's projects, a flag of Denmark and a truck.

Tuesday---Long morning as Joey was winding down from a short manic episode.  But we worked our way through the schoolwork.  We did more on our New Zealand projects.  And we baked Anzac biscuits.  Then the Joey and Lydia had a class at a local Metropark on Birds.  The learned about local birds and made natural bird feeders.  The both truly enjoyed the class.  I am grateful that Joey calmed enough to take the class.  He had been looking forward to it, and would have been severely disappointed to miss it.   Lydia and I messed up her Creature Feature project for zoo class.  I understood they were studying Antarctica, not the Arctic.  I discovered the mistake on Monday.  We studied penguins for over a week, couldn't use it for zoo class now!  So we did a quick project on the Arctic Fox.  We briefly covered that animal when we studied Sweden last month.  Here she thinks her tail is a blanket, the same way an Arctic Fox uses theirs.

Wednesday----This morning came too soon.  I had to get up at 3:45 am to take the boys for med checks.  We left at 4:30 and had to take Rocky with us, because Brayden did not want to leave the house.  A quick, trip through the drive-thru at Sonic (another bribe to leave the house way early) and we headed back home by 6 am.  Got home, Joe and the girls were getting up.  Got Caty ready for her "school" and on the bus, run back to our house from the bus stop, quickly packed mine and Lydia's lunches and headed back to Toledo for Zoo class.  Lydia loves this class.  It was a cold and rainy day.  So a couple other moms and I hid in the gift shop coffee area to stay warm.  The time flew and before we knew it, class was over.  Then a quick rush to pick up my CT Scan drink and headed home for guitar lessons, which has started by the time we got there.  Finishing touches on our New Zealand projects were then completed and we did our Science class.  We talked about how many bones are in the body and what would happen if we didn't have bones.  The kids played with their cousins and yummy fried chicken for dinner.  Joey tried cranberry sauce for the first time and really liked it.  It was definitely a cold night for fried chicken and veggies....MMMMmmm!

Our friend Sara posted this awesome activity, and so we included it in science this week.  We worked on Germs.  You mix glitter into hand lotion to show the millions of germs that we pick up on our hands.

And then see how long it takes to wash the glitter off.

Thursday---Early CT Scan for me.  I was shocked the actual dr. called me a couple hours later.  My pancreas is ok, but they discovered masses in my liver.  I knew I had hemonginomas there, but not masses.  So now an MRI so that they can figure this out.  May be the cause of my pain and possible sudden food allergies and weight loss.  We'll wait and see.  I then ran home and picked up Joey and Lydia, because Brayden wouldn't leave to go to World Travelers Club.  He had his project finished and even practiced!  We went to World Travelers, and ALL the kids did a wonderful job.  Joey presented Brayden's information because I forgot my laptop for the second half of his.  Silly Mommy!   Then we vegged at home for the evening and watch a DVD on Where Garbage Goes and then watched Little House on Hallmark Channel, which all the kids really enjoyed.
Where Does the Garbage Go?: Revised Edition (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2)
Friday---More blookwork for me, errands this morning, and ballet for the girls tonight.  We are having a Felicity Breakfast of porridge and bacon (nitrate-free).  Tonight is Family Movie Night.  We actually will be having make-your-own pizzas for dinner while we watch Wizard of Oz and Judy Moody's Not So Bummer Summer.  (Lydia is now a huge Judy Moody fan, we have been listening to the Audio book CDs in the van while we are traveling.  One full trip to Toledo is a full Judy Moody book.)  Lydia was so excited when she found that DVD (the new Judy Moody Movie) at the library yesterday.  I thought she would bust because she couldn't squeal in the library!  This afternoon we will be reading our last book on the skeletal system.  And doing some review on BIG IQ and Lydia will do a Reading Eggs episode.  She didn't yesterday, and I am trying to keep her on a daily schedule since she is enjoying the program soooo much.

Tomorrow afternoon is supposed to be very nice weather, so we may go to the park.  Lots to do around the house though, so it may be a play baseball outside kind of day for us instead.

Everyone have a great week!!!  Find out what other homeschool families are doing this week.
