It's hard to find family friendly movies. We are constantly searching and usually not everyone is happy with the choices that we find. We recently had the opportunity to see some of the choices offered by the Family Friendly Christian Movie Company, FishFlix.com. They gave us a chance to review the movie - When Calls the Heart - Heart of the Family.
FishFlix.com is an online movie company with the goal of offering family friendly Christian movies in one location. This makes it much easier to the age old question, What are we going to be watching? They are a Christian based company with the motto that God is honored by hard work, good service, and quality products. Their company motto is actually the Scripture at Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
I find that to be reassuring, knowing that they are looking out for our families by providing products that feature families of faith instead of hiding religion.

When Calls the Heart - Heart of the Family is a film for the entire family. It's a series that was created by the Hallmark channel. Based on the best selling author Janette Oke series, When Calls the Heart, this film is the story of Elizabeth and the town of Coal Valley. Based in the early 1900s in the Canadian frontier, Elizabeth is a city girl who was raised in high society. She decides that in order for her to feel fulfillment in her life, she is going to move to the frontier and teach school. This upsets her parents, but they allow her as long as she has a Canadian Mountie to keep her safe. Jack and Elizabeth stay at odds with each other, until they realize that they see something in each other. It is a sweet Christian romance.
The When Calls the Heart series by Janette Oke is one of my absolute favorite series. I did not even realize that they made a TV series based on these books. So I was very excited to get a chance to view these episodes.
I fell is love. Lydia fell in love. We both fell in love so much, that we started the entire series from the very first episode after we watched When Calls the Heart - Heart of the Family. We are now waiting with anxious anticipation for the next season to start.
The actors were all picked well for each role. The story lines showed true frontier themes. They were not made up or whimsical. They featured struggles and hardships that families did face when moving to the middle of no where. Yes it was a love story, but there was nothing inappropriate in the episodes that I would not have wanted any of the children to not be watching. I plan on watching these series again, and we will be using it as part of our history program when we reach this time period.
I highly recommend this romantic-series for your family. When Calls the Heart - Heart of the Family is part of Season 2 of this series. And I recommend getting them all, because I know we will be re-watching them.
