Simply Coding - Coding for Kids Annual Membership Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

We are a tech family.  But we recently got a chance to review the Coding for Kids Annual Membership from Simply Coding.  All I can say is WOW!!  This is a great addition to our studies this year.

My husband is in IT Security.  That means that we are covered with Internet safety, and talking to the kids about that.  But neither of us are great with those very basic skills coding.  This is definitely something we want to introduce the kids to, because who knows, they may find a potential career option.

When I first started my Parent Account for the Simply Coding - Coding for Kids Annual Membership, I was amazed.  The list of available classes for the kids to explore and take was amazing.  They could do very basic Scratch programming, website design, modding inside of Minecraft, Digital Photography, using applications such as Powerpoint, and even Animation.

Currently the girls are struggling with their increased work load going through high school level courses.  This has created a bit of an issue with them, and so Simply Coding was a great addition to bring out and work with the girls in during the week.  It was a fun thing that they could work on, in addition to their harder studies.  They do not even realize though that even with the fun, they are actually learning.

One of the courses that we are working through together is the Animatron4Kids.  The program is all video based learning, but you do have access to a chat session if you have any questions.

The girls have had a lot of fun using this course.  They watch the videos that provide a step-by-step process on how to complete the projects.  There are quizzes with each video section, so they can "test" what they are watching to make sure they are remembering.  I like that if we didn't understand something, we could easily go back and watch the video.

Lydia is starting the Digital Photography course also.  This will be an elective for her high school transcript.  Photography is a growing passion with her.

There is a syllabus available to help me with lesson planning for all of the courses.

The videos are very well made, and I like that the student cannot skip sections until they complete a section.  Lydia has a tendency to skip the instructional areas in videos.  So this feature is great if I cannot sit in on her lesson while I am working.  The student dashboard is extremely user friendly.  So she is able to work independently.

Specifically created for kids 11-18, the Simply Coding program really works to make kids independent in technical skills.  It introduces them to a wide variety of areas in which they could seek out future career choices.

I feel like during our review period I was not even able to use a fraction of what is available in the Simply Coding - Coding for Kids Annual Membership.  There is so much information, that we will be working through with this program.  The girls have made a list of the various sections, and I made a list of the courses they will be taking as requirements for me and the state for graduation.

Still not sure, make sure to visit the Simply Coding website and test out the student demo.  The information that is provided in this program is phenomenal.  Even in a tech savvy family like ours, it takes the planning and work out of teaching this subject off our shoulders.

The girls have made their requests and we will be continue to use Simply Coding in their weekly lesson plans roughly 2-3 days a week.

  1. Hi Renita,
May I ask how long it took your girls to do a lesson in the beginner courses? Like is one lesson usually a one-day assignment?
