Homeschool Mother's Journal - Week 15

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week......

It was back to the old grind this week.  Field trips, fall sports started back, med checks, and clubs.  Oh yeah....supposed to be doing school work between all of this!!!  Usually takes a few days to switch from Tennessee routine back to Ohio routine.  The kids spent most of Monday melting down and whining about doing anything....that's pretty usual for any day, but considering they spent so much time on the road on Sunday it was not surprising.

I have been trying to upload pictures to our family album of all our adventures last week in Nashville.  The hotel internet didn't have a lot of wiggle room about upload speeds.  Toooook FOREVER to upload pics for the few blog posts that I did last week.

We went to Homeschool Day at our local Toledo Zoo.  They had some really fun activities.  I just wish all the kids would have been more cooperative.  Brayden was not enjoying the fall bees and spent most of the trip covered in a rain poncho to avoid air.  We at least were able to finish our zoo bingo game and answer most of the questions with minimal help.

In our homeschool this week.....

We had homeschool day at the local zoo.  Lydia had a field trip to a Pizza shop....which she thought was "sooo coooool!"  We are a bit behind though because we lost a full day of school on Tuesday.  But working on catching back up.  Mainly behind on science and geography.  Going to talk about fall next week and Johnny Appleseed just a bit.  Monday is LEGO Club and that is our challenge, to build something that would be recognizable from Johnny Appleseed.

What's coming up.....

Next week we have an exciting field trip to the Frogtown Museum in downtown Toledo.  We also have LEGO Club.  They have a field trip to an Apple Farm also.  The boys have bowling on Tuesday night, but not sure how I am going to juggle everything right now.

What I am reading.......

A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book OneYep...still working on this book.  Don't get much "reading" time right now:(

What is working for us and what may not........

The boys seem to be requiring a lot of hands-on, and it's usually during the time that I am working with Lydia.  Unfortunately asking them to wait a few moment sends someone (either them or Lydia) into a meltdown.  Or the boys do not go on to their next assignment, they just sit and stare at the wall until I can sit with them.  Kind of a massive waste of time.  But Brayden is currently in the mindset that he cannot move on to the next drawer/assignment until the one he is currently working on is finished.

Favorite quote........

I got this from Homeschool Articles.com last week.

I'm cooking......

Very paleo this week.  I have had no soy free for a almost two weeks now (2 weeks this Monday), that I know of.  Unfortunately have not been able to get grass-fed beef this week, so could be ingesting it and not even know it.  Lots of veggies and fruits.  I have noticed a bit more hunger this week, but have not had any weight gain.  The sad part it is not helping my unknown side pain issues.  But at least I do not feel as sluggish after I eat.

Even our meal I packed for the zoo was very paleo (soy-free) friendly.  We had lettuce wraps (steak, peppers, avocado, and tomato) and fruit plate with strawberries.  The kids were able to pick their own meals.  I would love to switch more out of their diet, but not sure how to since they are very...very set in their dietary desires.

Favorite pics this week.....

The boys decided to join the Special Olympics bowling team in our county.  Their first games were Tuesday night.

To bowl pick up the spares..or not pick up the spares....that is the question......He looks in such deep thought.  (Although he was most likely thinking about either Yugi-oh or whether his brother was touching his french fries at the table.)

This shot just before he dropped the ball on his toe.....good thing he only uses a light 7 pound ball.....but made me cringe too!

Check out what happened with other homeschool mom's have been up to this week.

  1. It sounds like a fun and busy week. Much of your post parallels mine -- trying to squeeze in schoolwork among all these activities and struggling to carve out time with each child. I love the job description and your photos. And Game of Thrones has been on my "want to read" list forever. How are you liking it?

  2. Homeschoolers are never behind. Someone once told me this. We do our own thing, schooling with life. What we accomplish is just that. So, you're not behind! LOL
