Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy

Photobucket

When I learned multiplication, I was required to memorize the facts in number order.  Starting with 0s through 10s.  It was so boring and not something I really  have good memories of.  Joey has been having trouble with multiplication, and we were given the opportunity to try Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy.

Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy has the philosophy of taking the old learning method and changing it up.  Instead of learning each number facts in order, the initial step in this teaching method eliminates certain facts that are learned easily.  We all know, and children learn quickly that any number multiplied by 0 will be 0.  And any number multiplied by 1, will be that number.  It also eliminates the need to memorize anything by 10 or 11.

The elimination of these number fact families, gives only 36 facts that need to be learned.  Those can be learned over a 6 week period.  The program allows that random facts can be memorized each week instead of specific number families each week.  Randomness also also for actual memorization of the facts instead of a child using his fingers to solve the multiplication problems.

The program includes the lesson plans, worksheets, games, and flashcards for each week.  No extra work is really required.  Just working with your child.

Each day your child will complete an activity and practice their 6 multiplication facts.  You don't do not have to worry about printing worksheets or creating them.  Everything is included.  There are some drill worksheets and practice tests, but they are mainly fun worksheets.  These are coloring sheets by the product.  Or even puzzles that they can solve when they know the answers.  There are flashcards to go with each set of numbers.

You can view a few of the worksheet options below:

This is a great program.  And Joey really enjoyed using the worksheets.  Unfortunately, Joey did not have great success with it.  It turns out that he (unlike his brother) is unable to memorize his math facts. And it's not just his multiplication facts though.  We actually had a talk with his assessor and his doctor about this, and he will probably never remember his facts.  Is this a great program for him to practice with?  YES!!!!  Even though he was unable to memorize his facts this way, Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy will continue to be a great addition to his review program.

Each worksheets takes just a little time, and even his doctor thought the sheets looked encouraging for him to continue using.  With only 6 problems to worry about through each week of sheets, the work is not overwhelming to a child.  Instead of having problems 0-9 (or 0-12) to try and remember, you child is working with just 6 problems.  To a child with attention issues, this makes a huge difference in their attitude.

Would I recommend this program?   Yes I would, because even though it didn't show immediate success with Joey, he has been able to have continued success with his math practice.  The doctor said by using this program, the reinforcement would make a difference in his math success.  Especially since Joey has trouble memorizing large amounts of information at once, or really memorizing anything at all.  So we are going to keep using this program along with his regular math as a continued review.
