Paintagories Field trip

This year I am focusing a lot on art and artists that create them.  I am teaching an art class every other week where we are looking at what artists do and what art can be.  The girls really look forward to art class.

We recently were privileged to visit the local art museum for a field trip on the styles of art...ok it was a small sampling of what art is or can be.

Our docent took us through a maze of what artists can paint....

Portrait
Landscapes
Historical Art
Historical Art (sorry I took a picture of both they were looking at..lol)
Still Life
Oceanscape or Seascape
Cityscape
Genre Painting...everyday life.
I didn't get a shot of the abstract art...and I was shocked that Lydia did not like the abstract art.

After touring these sections of the museum, we had a Studio visit where the museum provides us with materials to create.

Since portraits were our first viewing, the kids were to draw a self-portrait.  They even gave each kid a mirror.  Most of the kids were using materials a bit new to them.  They were using construction paper crayons and Crayola Slick Sticks.
This was their finished products.

Caty...with curly rainbow hair.

Lydia...she really got a little abstract--which cracked me up!!

This was a wonderful field trip and I am so glad that we were able to do it.  Looking forward to the rest of the year learning about artists and their creations!!
