Homeschool Mothers Journal - Week 45

In my life this week....

Trying to stay positive.  It's been very, very hard.  The up and down weather and all of Joey's meltdowns have been taking a toll on both Joe and I.  I have been working on clearing out book shelves for the upcoming curriculum sale in May.  Not to mention clearing out our house of stuff for the community garage sale in May.  I should try and get a parking space at the local Goodwill marked with my name so I don't have to find a spot at the donation center.....they may start calling me by my name soon.

We are also working on planning our trip to Philadelphia with Joe.  Getting down to the wire.

In our homeschool this week....

The girls and I learned about Rainbows this week.  Lydia is still making major improvement in her learning.  Lydia is working on memorizing her addition charts.  We mainly practice as we are driving around.  I drill her and she gets so excited when she recognizes patterns, which is coming in handy as she is working on fact families. She and I will start reading the American Girl Saige books today (for our May American Girl Club meeting).

Joey and I started tackling World War I.  He and I are working on 20th Century History for the next few months.  He also started working on his Thomas Jefferson book.  We are going to be in Philly during Adventure Club this month, but I told him he needs to learn about him anyway.  Brayden is struggling to get back into the school groove.  Our boys WANT to be homeschooled, so after threatening to sell his new 3DS XL and send him back to a brick and mortar school building....he finally got the hint.

I've been reading....

Nothing this week.  I still am working on the Karen Robards Shattered book.  I am behind on my photography class, so reading for fun is not an option.

My favorite moment this week...

I was having such a bad day Wednesday.  The stress of life was weighing on me so bad.  I literally could've cried at the drop of a napkin.  Lydia looks outside while we were watching something after dinner and says, "Is it time to read together yet, it's getting dark outside."  She was using the daylight as her "clock"....I was so proud, because she is actually showing an interest in reading!!!

I've been cooking...

I spent all day cooking chicken broth for Joe because he could only eat broth yesterday.  He was on a liquid diet for his test today.  So I made chicken noodle soup also and of course chicken N Dumplings for Brayden.  I'm going to make Cincinnati chili tonight for Joey, one of his favorites.  Lydia had her favorite egg salad the other day.  Caty enjoyed the broth making because she LOVES chicken!

Things I am working on....

Decluttering....working on a Spring Craft show for Special Olympics.....switching out winter and spring clothes for the girls...packing and planning for our trip....prepping Lydia's art displays (the pictures need to be framed).....oh yeah and normal cleaning which just doesn't seem to ever be caught up.

Places we have been this week....

We had art class this week.  The kids "painted" on fabric with oil pastels.  They all really enjoyed this project.  Lydia did her own remake of Starry Night and a Mark Rothko look-alike.  Lydia had gymnastics.  Tomorrow Lydia and I, along with her cousins are going to see a program at a local park about the Turkey Buzzards in our area.  Seems weird, but Lydia loves learning about raptors.

A photo to share....

Caty was playing while I was working on cleaning up our patio area.  She looked so cute trying to hop around on the bouncer.  She didn't try this much last year, but so far this year she is trying to climb their climber and now bouncing on a ball.  She's making progress in some areas of concern.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

  1. Decluttering and organizing a household IS hard work! I've been doing it for a couple of months now inbetween being a single parent, homeschooling, housework, animals, errands, etc. etc. Oftentimes I'm exhausted at the end of the day, but it also gives me a sense of accomplishment too. Hang in there! It'll be awesome when it's completed!
