Homeschool Mothers Journal - Week 33

In my life this week....

It has been a very busy week.  I have to openly admit that I was grateful when a couple activities were cancelled.  I have been getting frustrated trying to keep up with all that isn't getting done at home.  So I need to figure out how to get EVERYTHING done.    I am working hard at keeping the schedule straight, but now I have to figure out the house and balance it out too.

I had to give up Farmville 2, there's just no time.  I am on my computer all the time, and I have a smart phone....but I'm usually working and haven't even had time to keep up on Facebook.  But some days I still look at what I should've accomplished and didn't...sigh :(

In our homeschool this week....

We did a lot of Unschooling this week.  We played a lot of games, cooking lessons, and played Minecraft....yep I said Minecraft.  Joey also did the Amanda Bennett unit study called Crazy Cartoons.  He really enjoyed that!  Caty and I started a Five in a Row study using Berenstain Bears books from the Enchanted Homeschooling Mom.

Lydia and I started reading American Girl Isabelle together.  We also did some reading and watching about World War I to go with our American Girl Rebecca study.  We used the Dover World War I coloring book and then watched a few videos on Youtube about trench warfare.  Last week we watched Dr. Zhivago to learn a little about the Russian Revolution....ok, I'll admit, she watched a little and I finished watching it :)

Places we're going and people we're seeing.....

It's been a really busy week.  Lydia cheered at her first basketball game this week.  She was so proud and (proud momma here) she did a good job.  The girls had zoo class where they got a chance to pet a boa constrictor (YUCK!!).  We had American Girl club, Scouts, speech therapy, piano, and Lydia had a doctor appointment.  We also went to a Popcorn Museum to celebrate National Popcorn Day on January 19th.  I really do not like the 2nd week of the month.  But we had some fun and the girls and I almost finished a Nancy Drew audiobook in the van.

We had art class also this week.

Projects I am working on.....

  • Curriculum for the next session of Homeschool with Minecraft
  • Organization chart for our house...Chore chart
  • Budget re-work
  • Menu plan
  • a couple sewing projects - skirts for the girls, Caty's weighted blanket
  • Lesson plans for the next month
  • Planning a craft fair fundraiser for our Special Olympics team heading to USA Games.
Cooking this week.....

Been working on little things here and there.  Nothing spectacular this week.  I did show the girls how to make homemade marshmallows so that we could make allergen friendly rice krispies.  Going to work on baking bread this weekend.

Reading.....

Not reading anything right now, just barely able to keep up with read aloud time with the girls and my own bible study.

Pictures from this week....

I noticed I am light on pictures this week.  But here's a few....

I was able to get the World War I study trunk from our local historical society.  They had pictures and a uniform for the girls to look at, including a gas mask.  This was to go along with our study of Rebecca for American Girl club.
In honor of National Popcorn Day, we had a field trip to a local Popcorn Museum!!  How fun!!
Lydia helped dad hang up a hat rack in her room.  I am tired of them laying all over.  This helped to fulfill a requirement for one of her patches...lol.
In Art class, the kids did origami.
Lydia cheered in her first basketball game.
I got to the gym the other day and the day care was closed.  So the girls and I worked out together using the Exercise balls.  Caty thought his was awesome.
The boa constrictor that the kids were able to pet during zoo class.
We learned about Nesting dolls in American Girl club, one of Rebecca's favorite toys.
We made Nesting Doll costumes for our dolls at the meeting....  The fabric size is 11 inches wide and 18 inches long.  Measure where you want the hole for the face and then cut a small hole the size of her face.
Sew up the sides and then turn right side out.
Make a scarf to tie on.  Our scarf measured 23 inches across at the widest point and 13 inches wide at the widest point.  I cut with pinking shears to keep from fraying.
I could cut her head hold wider if she wants.  But here is Saige as a nesting doll.
One of Caty's projects this week for our Berenstain Bears unit study.
Another Caty project she finished up.

Hope everyone has a great week!!
