The Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 Review

Well it's that time of year when the school year is winding down and we Mamas are planning what we will be doing in the upcoming year.  We recently had the opportunity to review the hot off the presses.... Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse.

There is just something about a good old-fashioned printed calendar.  Don't get me wrong, I love my online calendars and planners and they do work great.  But give me a planner that I can write in and I am in love.

The Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 ($29.00) runs from July 2016 to June 2017.  It is a complete planner without a bunch of extra bulk, which means it will travel well for us.  The cover is very sturdy and it's spiral bound, which is a must for me.  I like to be able to leave my planner open on my desk for the week.  I do paperclip my current page, but I just find it easier.  I also find it easier to flip through the pages of a spiral notebook when I am looking for something or planning ahead for a couple months like I sometimes do.

The Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 includes calendar and note pages for the entire 12 months, goal pages, reading logs, curriculum record for what you use and what you want to research for the next year, contact list where you can keep co-op and homeschool contacts, writing prompt ideas, quick reference information on state capitals, etc., and information on how to create an academic assessment.

The Reading Logs are easy to use and can help you track the books the kids are reading.  Our kids are amazed to see the number of books they have read each year.

The Homeschooling Contact List is great.  As you meet new families you can add their info, so you don't lose it.  Or you can keep your co-op information handy.

Throughout the pages, you will also find inspiring notes and scriptures, to help keep you positive even on those bad days.

The Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 can be used to plan all grade levels and educational styles.  You can use it if you create your own curriculum, with boxed curriculum or even if you are following a loosely unschooling style.  There is enough space to a minimum of 7 subjects for up to 6 students.  If you are doing an interest led approach, you could easily track the materials you want to use with the kids while they are learning their new topics.  You could also track experiments and materials that you want to purchase to keep them moving forward on their educational journey.

I have 4 kiddos that I plan for and there was room on the pages for their weekly work under if area.  I write rather small though to include as much detail as I can.  If I need to make myself an extra note, I usually throw it on a post-it and include it on the page.

I have only one major wish for The Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 , and it wish that there was a page for notes before each set of weekly pages.  Notes where I could put what supplies I need that week for projects or books that I need to get from the library.  I like to keep that information together with my lessons.  It makes it much easier.  But I can make it work by adding notes at the top of each page.

There are also not enough pages to log the books for our kids.  Our kids read a lot, so I actually use a spiral notebook to track their reading log now.  I could actually do without the other quick reference sheets in order to have more reading log pages.  Maybe the people planning for next year, might include a few more so I don't need to keep a separate notebook...hint...hint....
