What we are up to this week....Week 28

Well we are back to "regular" school this week.  It was nice to have a week off, but seriously....I didn't even make a dent in my to-do list.  Although I did watch all of Season 8 of Bones...lol.  I should've let Joey watch it with me and counted that as Science for him.

Well we have a few activities this week, including LEGO class at Build-It.  And we also have American Girl Club.  The girls have their dance recital this Friday also.

Combined subjects this week are Art, Health, and Ohio History.
Art - Line drawing using colored pencils to add color and detail
Health - Safety
Ohio History- How the Americans displaced the Natives...after the Revolutionary War.

Math
Joey and Brayden will be working on even/odd numbers (large ones) and accurately reading word problems to find the solutions.  Lydia is working on fractions and reviewing a math program which is showing her easy techniques for adding.  Caty....well whatever we decide to play in this area.

What we are up to this week - Week 21

We are doing part week, but full lessons.  Actually I am only planning 3 days, so we can work around the couple trips we have this week.  On Monday we have art class and Thursday we have a really cool event about the Great Black Swamp here in Ohio.  The girls piano class resumes this week and so does guitar.  So we have plenty to do.

Joey
Joey struggled in math last week also.  I am going to have a few more equality problems for him to work on, and then we'll be working on greatest/least word problems.  He'll be doing Science with Lydia, so Density and Shape of Matter.  He'll also be working on Bolivia for World Travelers.  In Grammar he'll be working on Spelling Plural nouns and then practicing on IXL.  He also starts his new Minecraft Castles class this week.

Brayden
Brayden is continuing work with multiple factors in multiplication.   He is struggling with remembering the proper order of operations and when you add and when you don't.  In Ohio History we'll be reading about 'How Nature Shaped Ohio".  In Grammar, we'll be working on the Main Idea and reviewing more parts of speech.  This week it's pronouns and adjectives.  In Art he is working on portraits (this is an extra provided by Time 4 Learning).  In Science, we'll continue with Sound and the Sounds we hear from music.

Lydia
Lydia is starting Life of fred Butterflies this week.  She really does enjoy Life of Fred.  We are reinforcing skills using IXL.com.  In Science, they'll be learning about the Density and shape of Matter.  For Geography, we'll be researching her Bolivia project for World Travelers Club.  In Grammar, Refreshing ourselves on nouns and verbs (in prep for Subject and Predicate work next week).  Her regular "games" in Spelling/Vocabulary City.  In Reading, I have changed out a few of her books to see if she notices they are a little tougher.  She'll also be doing a couple lessons in Reading Kingdom.  And for Handwriting, We'll be creating monsters and writing stories about them.

Caty
This week we'll be working on the Letter M and N.  Caty is LOVING Reading Eggs and Math Seeds.  She begs to do her schoolwork on these everyday.  So I am going with it.  We'll be working more on Bolivia.  She and I will continue reading her God's Big World magazine.  And for Science we'll start reading about Space and our planets.

Hope everyone is has a wonderful week!!!  See you on Saturday at Homeschool Mothers Journal/Week in Review.

What we are up to this week....Week 20

We have a couple field trips this week.  I am grateful for Monday, it's a very quiet day!  We are very excited to be starting DIY club on Tuesday.  Sooooo very happy about this club for the boys.  We do not have music lessons this week due to teachers being out of town and busy.  On Thursday the girls start their first Zoo Homeschool class for the year, and we also have our Women's Living History event.  On Friday we have a trip back to Fort Meigs to learn how soldiers lived in the War of 1812.

Joey is working on IXL this week.  He is going to be working on Inequalities and comparing numbers in math.  In Science we will be starting Apologia Chemistry (watch for the upcoming review).  This week in Science will be matter and the density of matter.  For World Travelers, we will start learning about the country of Bolivia.  Joey and Brayden start back up with Ohio History this week.  Pretty basic stuff in there, just learning about all the counties and refresher of the basics of Ohio Geography.  In Grammar, he will be working on using nouns in writing.  We are hoping to finish up his History of Halloween essay this week also.

Brayden will still be working with Time 4 Learning.  He seems to enjoy it.  This week he will be working on multiplying multiple numbers in Math.   In Science he will be learning about Sound.  He and Joey will be working on Ohio History together.  I am also going to have him concentrate on United State geography, meaning at the next couple weeks learning where states are located.  In Art he will be working on Color and using color.  In LA, he will be learning about the plot of a story.  In Grammar, he is working on Nouns and verbs.

Lydia is all across the boards using all different kinds of curriculum.  She'll continue using Life of Fred, she has graduated to the Butterflies book.  She'll be doing Science with Joey and working on Matter.  In history, she will be finishing her project on Jane Goodall.  World Travelers, she'll be learning about Bolivia and cooking our meal.  For Language Arts, she'll be working on types of sentences (question, command, exclamation) and the punctuation used.  (Using IXL for practice).  She did great using Spelling city for Spelling, so she will continue her next spelling list this week.  Handwriting is Draw Write Now, level 1.  And of course, she'll continue with Reading Kingdom and reading books.  I have been secretly upping a few of her reading books she keeps at her desk...lol.  She hasn't caught on yet....SHHHHH!  She also needs to finish her castle project for her online Middle Ages class.

Caty is continuing her Letter of the Week.  We got behind, so working on L and M this week.  We'll also be learning why leaves change color in the Fall.  She is getting to try some great World Geography books, so this week we will be learning about South Korea.  I picked out a couple recipes for her to help make for lunch this week.  In math, continue with shapes and number association.  She also gets to review a new magazine called God's World.  We are so excited....I am loving what I have seen so far.  Watch for the upcoming review.

Hope everyone has a great week!!!  See you Saturday!!

What we are up to this week....Week 19

It's going to be a long week.....we have a class, field trip, or club every day.  So we are going to be "unschooling" it this week.  The kids and I went to the library the other day and picked out books on topics they wanted to learn about.

Joey- He's going to be finishing his Minecraft class this week.  He has built his Temple of Artemis.  Castles starts soon, and he is excited.  The books he chose were on Forensic Science and Wind Energy.  He's using IXL.com (watch for the upcoming review) for topics on math and grammar.  And also Spelling City.  We're also going to spend a little more time working on his History of Halloween essay.

Brayden - He's working on a few books.  He chose a book on weights and measurement.  I am almost certain he will dislike it.  So I am going to be ready for him to read about Wind Energy and taking care of the planet.

Lydia - Well she is working on IXL also.  So she'll be using those practice games for math and grammar/language arts.  For science she chose...drumroll please....animal books.  She is going to read about deer, owls, and look at birds of Ohio.  We are going to be working on our Bird (ornithology) Badge for DIY Club.  She'll also be doing Spelling City.

Caty - She chose to learn about the planets this week.  We are going to skip to the Letter P for planets.  She is also using IXL.com for math.

This might seem light, but the kids do have art class.  They also have their history covered in a field trip on Wednesday to Fort Meigs (War of 1812) and we will be reading our area of the Great Black Swamp.  I recorded a PBS special that we can watch also.  In a couple weeks, we are going to listen to a historian/storyteller fill us in on The Great Black Swamp.  Their LEGO class on Tuesday in on building suspension bridges.  I can't wait to watch that one!  I think we are pretty covered this week!

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!  See you on Saturday!!
